A Few Eagles From Iowa.
It was finally above 10 degrees today in Iowa.
So I went out with my fiance and shot some photos of Eagles.
I need some suggestions on purchasing a new zoom lens.
Presently, I own a Sigma 70-300mm Telephoto Lens.
To be honest, I hate it.
The auto-focus on it is just terrible. (Sometimes, it just won't work. I find it much less of a hassle to do it manually, and it shouldn't be like that.)
And I don't really like the way the colors are produced through this lens and I can't get much clarity.
What does everyone here use?
Thanks.
Here are some of the shots.

Good for you getting out there and chasing the eagles. They're out there in full force right now.....a bunch of us going this coming weekend. I highly recommend the 400mm f/5.6 prime (Canon). The 500mm is really sweet but will cost ya 5k. The 400 will do a nice job and is with out a doubt the sharpest lens I've used and own. IF you shoot Nikon, that 80-400 VR sure does a nice job. Here's one such example with the 400:
The eagle gallery here...all shot with the 400 except a few (and you can tell...)

I'm using a sigma 50-500 on my Nikon right now. I hope to hit the Mississippi by the Quad Cities in the next 3 weeks.

I like that first shot a lot.
Even though there's a lot of branches in there, you managed to work your way
around to get a clear shot of the bird.
I see in your profile that you have an XT.
As Swartzy said, the 400L f5.6 is a great lens for birding. Although I don't own
one, I've read a lot of good things about the Canon 100-400L zoom.
Choose your lenses wisely, or you'll be buying them twice.:D

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
