New family shoot (from maternity session last fall)

Been working on "orchestrated" candids with groups lately. I figure if groups are my least favorite, they must be a weakness I need to work on! Comments/critique welcome.

I am a fan of candid family portraiture. These are great. The baby's face in #2 made me smile too. I hope tho that there are at least a few photos in the package in which the subjects address the camera. I spose I just like to see someone's eyes occasionally.

Oh for sure, I just hate to bore dgrinner folks needlessly :)

thanks for the feedback! its tricky to get good candid expressions from the adults as well as the babies, who can't respond to direction as easily.

These turned out nice, Lynne! I find group posing difficult...these look very natural and "un-posed". You caught some cute faces on that adorable baby! Please don't worry about "boring" us with more photos. Remember this is the "People" forum and that's what most of us are interested in seeing! thumb.gif

Especially like #1! The closeness, clarity and light are so very nice, as is the profiled expression from the mom. They are "posed" comfortably and naturally. Love the dog, too!
Thanks for sharing your excellent work! clap.gif

The dog looks like he's thinking.....um...I'm the dog. WHY are you taking MY picture??

As for the glass glare; I did some business candids yesterday and in one of the shots the guy's safety glasses are really shooting off a glare. I tried to lessen it, and to a certain extent I managed, but it's irritating to say the least. I'm always afraid I'll mess up the focus on the eyes if I jack with the glare too much. One of these days I'll get better at PhotoShop.

Great shots lynne. Loved them, as well as some of the others I saw on your website. Gave me some good ideas. :)

Really lovely shots, thank you for showing them. I enjoyed the look of pure adoration and joy on the parents' faces. My favorites are the first, where the baby seems to be floating angelically on some fluffy clouds, and the one of the dog--what a great expression he has! :)

    happy day,

The first one is amazing - not that I have any kids (or even friends with babies), but it's on my list of "to emulate" thumb.gif

thanks Bob! This one is quite special, as it was my first shoot with the ST-E2 +off-camera speedlight (vs available, bounced flash or hot lights) and I am AMAZED at the convenience (OMG! no extension cords, big umbrellas, hot un-adjustable lighting...), and natural effect it has. These shots are straight out of camera with minor WB correction in Lightroom.

I am kicking myself for waiting so long to get one.

If you have either the 580/430/STE2, you should also get the blue crane dvd, it was quite educational, maybe only b/c the speedlite manuals are so notoriously lame.
