great shots again!I think the third 'ostrich vulture' is my favourite.
I dont know if you have already posted this stuff somewhere but would love to hear more about your set up and how your achieving these.
Thanks Stu,
That's my favourite as well (it's a window gnat).
Lots of info here in the discuss points (main one is in the hints &tips). http://www.flickr.com/groups/macroviewers/
Many of the shots are focus stacked for greater DOF.
Ohhhhhhh that would be right, a Hover Fly just happens to come along while your photographing a flower ????
.......your a dang Bug Magnet Brian
Every time I see a Hover Fly it reminds me of FEARLESS FLY
Excellents Series Brian ..... Skippy .
Thanks Skippy
Didn't quite happen like that - I took the crocus shots just after they opened but knew from last year that it wouldn't take long for the hovers to find them (not many flowers with such a rich pollen source around at the moment) so I just checked back every now and then until they appeared.
I've only just worked out why the the crocus shots look so luminous- the flower itself acts as a parabolic light reflector
Thanks Stu,

Cheers for that but is there a more beginners focused session?
for example if my 300mm manuel lens is suitable for reversing? If I go macro rings then what lens is best to attach on the end? flash or studio lights
Trapped in my bedroom taking pictures...did i say bedroom? i meant studio!

Have only just worked out that crocus flowers act as parabolic reflectors so you get interesting lighting

Stu, just did a quick addition to my flickr stuff on cheap ways of getting into macro which may be of help

As far as lighting is concerned flash is easier to use especially for moving subjects but you need some form of diffuser
you can see some ideas in my equipment shots here
