So the mating is done by a male flying along and just grabs another and most of the time falls to the ground .They fight a little or a lot

If he gets luckymwink.gif [sorry for the pun ] and if the female is of the mood then they fly away .Sometimes the female has mated a few times already and will not go along i.e. makes it very hard for the male to pick them up and fly away . If they both are of one mind then it's back to the trees for the egg thing :ivar . Monarchs fly 1000's of miles to warmer climates for the winter mating ,I think they are really so calif kind of folks and hate snow and close to 0 weather [that is just a guess] :D

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Great shots, Jeff. Hard to get the lighting that good in the Eucalyptus groves--the butterfly colors really stand out.
