Any of you tech geeks want to 'splain this to me? How does it's size and sensitivity compare to what most of us use? Is this a big step forward or a baby step?:scratch

It's still a point and shoot style sensor (albeit a larger than the current average one); the big jump forward is the 60FPS at full resolution. Normal point and shoot cameras run the CCD/CMOS in a low quality, fast video mode for the LCD or live viewfinder, and switch back over to "photo quality" mode when you press the shutter. There's an inherent delay doing this; hence the bad performance compared to dSLRs. Since this Sony sensor can capture full quality images at roughly twice what TV signals are displayed at, there shouldn't have to be any switching between "video" and "still" mode as far as the sensor's concerned - it'll just save one frame of its LCD video to the card. This should make for a *much* snappier response time.

Also the 300FPS at lower resolutions could mean high speed video cameras for the masses :D

Okay, so it's not for their Alpha line of dSLRs then. Thanks for the explanation - thumb.gif
