Hi,

i have a new Nikon D200 with a Nikon 70-200 VR and I would like to buy:

My question:
  • A new Nikon TC-17 (in connection 70-200 VR f4.8-f9) or a new Nikon 80-400 VR f4.5-f5.6
  • which would be your recommendation ?
Thanks in advance :thumb

I have both the 70-200 and 80-400 shot on d2h and d2x bodies.
At least with my copies, the 80-400 is sharper than my 70-200 with the 1.7x multipler.
I use the 70-200 much more than the 400, primarily as it is faster both with focus and the 2.8 gathers in a lot more light- but I rarely attach the 1.7x. I shot with the merrit 4 bird shoot a couple of weeks ago- I shoot more sports than birds- and used the 80-400 a lot, and was quite pleased with the outcome. So, both are pretty darn good lenses- the 200 is a great lens, both can be sharp- but if you need the 400 length, the 80-400 will do a better job than the 1.7x multiplier- at least in my opinion. Of coarse you have the 200, and the multiplier is a lot cheaper. Your call, either will work!
