Hi all, new SmugMug fan and as you can see this is my first DGrin post. I have a few questions, thank you for your patience.

I've searched through a number of DGrin postings having to do with adding FLV video and I've made a first effort at creating a video gallery that streams from another host.

Here is my video gallery:
http://harpersdad.smugmug.com/gallery/2491979#130795132

I used the code found here:
http://www.smugmug.com/help/video
and adapted it with the URL for the FLV video in my Photobucket account. The result looks like this:

<html><div align="center"> <p><h2>This is a test of the Harper Broadcast System</h2></p> <p><embed width="430" height="389" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://s83.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid83.photobucket.com/albums/j294/DMayATL/justgas.flv"></embed></p&gt; <p>Enjoy!</p></div></html>

Here is the HTML Tag code suggested by Photobucket which I plugged into the above:
<embed width="430" height="389" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://s83.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid83.photobucket.com/albums/j294/DMayATL/justgas.flv"></embed&gt;

This added the video just as I wanted it (though I'd love to get rid of that Photobucket player interface) and the video plays back fine using both Firefox2 and Internet Explorer.

My mother-in-law tried to watch the video using Safari on her Apple and she got sound but no video. I've asked her to visit Adobe's Flash site to make sure she has the latest version of the player. We'll see if that works.

Might there be some other issue that would prevent Safari users from watching the video? I'll freely admit to my lack of HTML skills, I borrowed code from the help pages as I said. Is there a better/cleaner way to do what I'm attempting?

Also, I'm using Photobucket because I prefer the relative privacy of their hosting as opposed to a public service such as YouTube or GoogleVid. I'm assuming that they are not going to allow me to bypass their FLV player, but might there be a way to do so. The FLV I created should have player controls built in. Could the built in player controls and the Photobucket player controls be conflicting with one another?

Can anyone recommend a better free hosting alternative for Flash Video that is not wholly public?

Finally, on SmugMug's help page for video, the final step is cutting and pasting the nophotos CSS code. As a non-power user is that someting that i'm not going to be able to incorporate?

Thanks to all for your time and expertise.

    Hi :)

    Welcome to DGrin <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/wave.gif&quot; border="0" alt="" >

I was able to view your video just fine using Safari. Hopefully, your mother-in-law will be able to view after checking a few things, i.e., flash.

The code you refer to is only available to Power and Pro users. I wish I had a better answer for you.

Let us know if you have further questions or your mother-in-law still has problems.

Thanks for checking that out Barb.

My mother-in-law has been able to view the video after updating Flash.

Now I'm experimenting with finding another, possibly better, hosting service for video. I started playing with Google Video, but their whole process of uploading, processing and approval takes forever. Less than ideal.
