Harry http://behret.smugmug.com/NANPA member How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
That first one looks like it could have been made with a fractal generator, with the curves and the reflection coming out almost like a mirror. Nice work!!
Al, love the first shot too but I'm curious ... what has this to do with primes or zooms. I'm not sure what you mean by "Why I can't use a Prime". Help me out man. What am I missing?

Thanks for the kind words!
Bob, first was at 135ish, second at 300ish. If I was running primes, I would have had a 500+ fitted and stood a good chance of missing the shots (birds don't normally hang around like this one did). Going on a bird photography mission, chances are really good that I wouldn't even have had a 135ish lens with me.
What I was trying to get at is that I'll never be able to use primes

I really love that first one. You couldn't ask for more.
That is a discussion that I have been having with a guy at work. He insists that he will be able to get better nature pictures with a 500mm prime and I say that the few that he gets that are absolutely spot on won't make up for the whole bunch that he misses. But each of us knows what we want and none of us are wrong about it. Again what a beautiful pic.

Thanks! I agree with you, I'd rather get ALL the shots with a good quality zoom than miss 2/3s of them with superb quality primes.

There are a few more reflection shots on my smuggy (as the bird was preening, I couldn't stop snapping)
Just for interest, the bird is a Blue Crane, South Africa's national bird.
