Same flower with 36mm of extension tubes on the 100mm macro lens (shot wide open at F2.8):

Another shot at F2.8, different flower...

Quite frankly, the first one makes me envious.bowdown.gif

    Very well done.

Now I will be so bold as to ask - how did you do it?

Well, I could lie and say that I'm some sort of "Photoshop Ninja" but the honest truth is that I just let the aperture and the light paint the background for me.

I shoot hand held so here's how I made all those images: Set your camera to shutter priority 1/250 of a second (or whatever the max flash sync speed is for your camera). Set your ISO to 200 initially -if the light is low you may have to go to ISO 400. If there is a lot of light and you're getting an Fstop above F4 then drop down to ISO 100. You want to shoot with a very small aperture -the shot you like was taken at F3.2. Set your flash to -2 1/3 EV -just enough light to give you some detail in the shadows, but not enough to blow out the highlights. Compose the image (no cropping allowed! ;) ) and press the shutter button. The light and the aperture will do all of the Photoshopping for you mwink.gif

Note: If the depth of field is very small then experiment with putting the point of sharp focus at different areas of the frame...
