No-one about for the lifesavers to save.
Kite Surfing is really getting popular here now. Im getting very tempted to look into it myself.
I dont know where these guys went but the just disappeared into the distance after about 30 mins.
Gutsy stuff here..this beach has the highest shark strike rate on the drumlines in australia im told & sharks just love deep gutters at high tide. You wouldnt get me in there !!!
A wild seadog did attempt an attack but i managed to get out of its way in time.
Blue bottle (also called portugese man-o-war) the water was full of them.

Those guys who disappeared must have been pretty good...I caught this shot of one at sunset, here on the other side of the world. Just went to the beach for some dune shots and there they were! Sorry about poor quality, but originals much less grainy. Shot with Canon 5D and 70-200 f4, IS L lens.
Thanks for the reminder that Australia is a giant trap set to kill every human who dares set foot there.
I like these very much.

Tks for looking guys. Sid ..blue bottles do sting sometimes pretty hard but its when they get across your face in the surf that things get personal. As for the sharks ..well you just have to know where they hang out.
I can almost feel the heat! I'm bundled up in my smugmug fleece pullover from the Yosemite shoot out! It's damp and showery...
Kite sailing does look like fun, but it's more fun for me to photograph them being pulled out of the water and flipping around upside down, etc.
We get similar things to your "blue bottles" but I don't think they sting. They are called By-the-wind sailor (Velella velella). We should be seeing them next month or April I think. They cover the beach sometimes. I've never seen them in the water, although I've seen photos of them in the water.
I used to see sea shells all the time on the Atlantic coast, but rarely see sea shells out here on the Pacific coast. I don't miss stepping on the sharp edges of the shells, but I do miss finding pretty ones to pick up and bring home.

No-one really worries about the shells here dee as there are so many here. Every conceivable size & shape....that & coral washed up from the Great Barrier Reef. Everything washes up on these beaches from coconuts to tourists that dont read the warning signs that are in 10 diff languages.
