Horsetail Falls - Yosemite

Horsetail falls delivered for us once again this year. If you have never gone to see this in person, please try to take a Feb trip when you have the chance.

This year was a bit different, since southside drive was closed the only way to get back to the spot we normally shoot from it was a better than a mile walk through the snow. Very cold walk on the way back, but I think it was worth it. Obiviously other folks didn't think it was worth the walk because our group was all alone ..

    Warm and glowy
The photographers who keep going back to their favorite spots throughout the year discover that the sun's motion only produces certain effects at certain times of the year -- excellent catch!

Just one of those photos was worth the whole trip! I suspect you worked very hard to get them. Thanks for the post.

I love Yosemite but I don't get there much since I moved from California. I have never gone at the right time to see Horsetail Falls illuminated by the sunset, though. I have seen several photos of the falls, but I have never seen one from this viewpoint. Most have been looking up. Where were you located to get this spectacular view?

Ed! I'm soooooooooo jealous! We went to Yosemite on Monday night and just got back this evening after a long week. We had lots of wonderful snow ops, but no firefalls due to the weather. However, I'm glad to hear you were one of the few to get the shot! Props my friend. thumb.gif

If you are on southside drive on the opposite side of the river from El Cap there are a couple of spots that you could probably get this shot from, personally I go to the same spot every year, I'll see if I can find a map to post where I took this from. But here are the coordinates(sp) from last year, there is about 30 years from where I shot this year

We got lucky Bro, last year we a half dozen or so trips up there to get the shot and finally got one but the water was really light. This year we had a day of snow then a day of rain and the the weather broke on Saturday and gave us our shot..
