They were reasonably photogenic. I zoomed in on many as abstract images, some of them I like a lot (bottom 3 here are among my faves).

It was a Luminous Landscape organized trip to Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and the Antarctic Peninsula. They went in November 2005, I saw the images, and thought "damnit, if they go again, I'm going." So they did, and I did. It set me back about what a pair of shiny new 1Ds Mark IIs would, but I'm really glad I went. Trips like that don't come up all that often.

Almost beats the SmugMug trips with Marc, except of course for the instructors :D

I've always been passionate about textures of any kind and these photos really pump up my passion! Words fail to describe the beauty. Thanks for posting them.

I've been all over your gallery, drooling. What a trip. Great photography, great images. I'm sure it's good to be back though. rolleyes1.gif

    Keep 'em coming.

    Other than missing the dog:

And the wife [not pictured] I could hang out a while longer down there and hope for some good landscape light ;-)

But thanks... it was an outstanding trip. One of those "once in a lifetime, maybe twice" sort of trips. Thanks for the compliments!

Awesome! How much time did you get with the pro's to go over your photography?

Beautiful shots! I have never seen an iceberg, but those colors are gorgeous. Great job with making abstract images out of the textures and shapes.

They were generally available whenever you wanted outside of shooting hours (if you were onshore and had a question they'd help but were often shooting things of their own ;-)

Of course, few of the people on the trip as "students" were rank amateurs -- something about paying say $15K and going on a small boat for 3 weeks does a bit of sorting of peoples' priorities and experience mwink.gif

Wow CatOne. I just spent more time than I have at work going through your Antarctica gallery. You have some amazing images of both the land and the animals. I'm awed. bowdown.gif

Wow, I wanted to go on that trip so bad. It filled so fast, and then for a few weeks they had space available in December, but I had already made plans.

Who were all of the instructors who finally accompanied the paying customers?

It sounded like the trip of a lifetime.

I love the blue of your icebergs contrasted with the gray of the sky,

I love the blue of your icebergs contrasted with the gray of the sky,

We had Seth Resnick, Jeff Schewe, John Paul Capinigro, Michael Reichmann, Steven Johnson, and Bill Atkinson was a last minute attendee as John Shaw was a last minute cancellation. So it was a great trip -- I spent a fair bit of time with Seth and Jeff as they were good photographers as well as being enormously entertaining.

Definitely a fantastic trip -- absolutely worth the money and time, both of which were rather large commitments. Ah well, you can't take it with you :-)

You could do some interesting grunge brushes with those shots. mwink.gif
