Guest Password or Email Option for Shared Website Gallery

Hi I'm new to DGRIN...but learning tons already.
I'm considering designing a website for a small community of folks. One gallery showing examples of certain techniques and another that allows members to post how they used that technique in their photos.
Was wondering if any of you have incorporated something like this on your websites? Did you use the guest password or email options for the other members? If you used email, did you integrate this to your site...possibly some sort of hyperlink to bring up an email form to ensure that the member uses the correct SUBJ and info in body of the email so that information such as member ID and comments appear under the photo?
I also tried searching existing threads for answers so if I missed one that covers this already...please point it out...
