it has a USB port on it's side.

does that mean that if I buy the p-3000 and find that 30 GB is insuffiecient for me while on a long trip without a laptop, I can get an external hard drive as a supplement and move some picture onto there?

how well would that work if I chose to do that?

thanks!!!

You'd need to know more about its software. Does it allow you to move files around? Does it recognize external drives?

Or is the USB a passive connection, allowing files to be dragged off the Epson by a computer, a computer which does have file handling software?

My Epson P-4000 requires a computer to transfer files - I do not know of a way to transfer files from the Epson P-4000 to another hard drive without a laptop connecting both of them.

    May be you can.

I have the P-3000 and I just conect to it my USB MEMORY STICK, and I found the following options:

    in HOME, you will find:
USB DEVICE > Backup USB Device (will copy all the info)
    Browse USB Device
Copy all backup files (I guess, but dont try, this will copy your files in your BACKUP FILES FOLDER in the EPSON, to the USB Device)

Other way, I try, you can go to a folder of your photos, and select single or multiple photos to copy them to another device.

When you are in the photo, thumbnail of that photo, or a folder you can press MENU, and the menu get the options for the picture incluiding COPY/MOVE, I try with COPY one single photo to my USB MEMORY and it worked fine.

    So...

I GUESS, that this could be the same with an external USB HD, but what can tell you is that the EPSON doesnt have the power to supply an external HD as a computer does. Actually the usb memory just lights on when I ask the EPSON to do something on it, other wise is not getting any power supply as when i connect it to my laptop, the light is on all the time.

    Hope this helps.
