Any source for these other than genuine Canon?

canon.gif

shim.gifshim.gifCanon Off Camera Shoe Cord 2, 60cm (2ft.), TTL Off-Camera Flash Cable for All EOS Cameras (Except 630 and RT Models)

shim.gifMfr# 2391A001 • B&H# CASC2OC</SPAN>shim.gifshim.gifOur Price:$ 49.95

It seems rather pricy at $50. What I would really like is the IR remote trigger, but its really pricy at $300!

I know there are off brand grips and batteries, but I cant find any source of flash accessories.

Thanks,

Z

    Hi George,

Paramount used to make one - it is still visible on their website, but when I click on on to order it, the next page says it is no longer available - look about halfway down the page on the link.

    B&H has this [url="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=654&A=details&Q=&sku=466705&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation
"]one from Dot Line for 39.95

But the DOT Line version gets a real poor review here and I can't seem to google a website for DOT Line itself, which suggests that it is a very small company that might not be very customer friendly.ne_nau.gif

Canon's price seems high, but the cord does work reliably. I have read about folks who purchased a Canon cord, and then spliced 20 feet of ZIP cord into it to lengthen it, but I have no idea where I read that link now.

    The ST-E2 is not $300, I see it on B&H for $210.

The absence of cords is a real advantage - the ability to set a flash and a foamie diffuser on a shelf and then wander about a room shooting with a synched ETTL bounced flash is really hard to beat.

I can't seem to find any other ETTL cord on B&Hs website either. You might call B&H next week and see if there is a source that we can't seem to find online.

If you think ETTL cords are expensive, try pricing an HDMI cord.

Promaster makes one. People tell me that it is better made then the Canon cord. I would google promaster to find out who might carry them in your area

I do like the wireless setup and think that's the way to go. In the old film days, we used a slave unit on the slave flash and it was triggered by the main flash using the light alone.

I understand the Nikons still work this way, and you can use the onboard flash to trigger the master unit across the room.

Is my understanding correct that since the trigger on Canon is IR, a simple light burst from an onboard flash wont work?

I still have an old Vivitar slave attachment. I would simple try it, but worry today about cross contaminating voltages.....

    Z

I guess if I get the wireless setup first, then it is $50 cheaper than getting the cord, then getting the wireless set up.....obtuse thinking, but it my logic!

Btw Pathfinder, if you haven't been pointed to them before, you need to check out Blue Jeans Cable ( http://www.bluejeanscable.com/ ) and Monoprice ( http://www.monoprice.com ) for HDMI cables.

I can personally vouch for Blue Jean..I bought the 6ft HDMI for $21.00, and it is a very very heavy cable, far superior to anything I have found in local stores, including many high end stereo stores.

Has them as a store brand. I got one last week. $35. I don't see them on their web page.

It seems fine, a little more cheensey than the Cannon. I'm not sure who makes it for them.

I reacted the same way you hve - Damn, that's an expensive cord!!:D :D

I bought both finally though - cord and IR transmitter.

They have somewhat different uses. The cord works much better on a camera with the flash on a flip bracket or a bracket for macro flash. Really too close to be ideal for the ST-E2 and a little smaller when you have the flash nearby on a bracket.

I was kind of joking abut the HDMI cables. Over Christmas, Circuit City had them all priced at well over a $125.00

I mean it was absolute gouging folks shopping at Christmas time. I found several on amazon for $20.00 and they seem to work just fine.

I will keep the links though - I might need some more cables in the future - you never know.

    Airedrifter,
Can you post a link to the cable you got?

I searched that link for a Canon off camera ETTL cord and came up empty. I could find NON-ETTL Canon off camera cords, but that is not what we are looking for.

I don't think it's on their web page.
I don't see any of their store brand items on their web page. You'll have to call or email them. I'll take a photo of the cord and post it.

Good shop, local to me in N. VA.

    Jim:

You'll get a kick out of this. I ordered it today from B&H - they are now $69.95! I should have just ordered it a year ago!

I have a 550EX, so I got a 430ex to work as slave. That, plus two stands, two clamps and two umbrellas should give me a decent studio set up.

B&H has a nice Impact kit:

I have the ST-E2 from one of Pathfinder's other bank account robbing recommendations.

    Expect new photo's soon......
