Nikon D50 Auto Rotate: OFF?

Hi guys,

We recently had an inquiry about auto rotate on the Nikon D50. Apparently it's just kind of doing what it wants to with the rotation in portrait orientation.

On Canon models, in the menu options, it has a setting called "Auto Rotate: On/Off" that's toggleable in-camera. Does Nikon have something similiar? On doing some research on it, I see there are actually two menu settings, but both seem to pertain to just in-camera playback, or am I misunderstanding?

Is there any way to abort, circumvent or change the orientation of these Nikon photos before uploading to SmugMug?

Any help you guys could offer would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Rotation info is just a tag

As far as I know, the auto-rotation thing is just a tag on the image. The actual image is always recorded (out of camera) in the landscape orientation. You can then use the software on your PC to obey that tag or not or even strip it if you want before uploading to Smugmug.
