    Did you use the shadow highlight tool?
    There is something lacking in the tonal range.

    Cute kids. Number 3 is my favorite---it's a good capture. I like how his jacket colors are so bright in contrast to the dull shovel and steps and the white of the snow. Plus, it looks like it was snowing heavily, so kudos to you for getting these shots. I took a few pictures in heavy snow last month, and put a plastic grocery bag over the camera to try and keep it dry. It did not work so well. :P
