I am looking at starting a "event photography" business concerning a different kind of event that I have not seen anyone doing. Tryin to develop a business plan.

This is may a closely guarded secret, but I need a metric for business modeling. Out of say 100 candid event pictures how many photo sales do you get? Or, per event how many pictures do you take and how many sales result?:dunno

If you don't want to post it then send me an email at digital-photo@comcast.net.

Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated....

Depends on the event I guess .. since this is in the sports section and you did not specify the event it's probably safe to say that your event will have something to do with sports rolleyes1.gif

Anyways I shoot a lot of hockey and find it easier to judge the success by what percentage of participants order something (and what the average size of the orders are) rather than look at the number of shots I take and see how many are sold. I've been running between 30-40% sales penetration rate depending on the age and size of event and am still trying to get my sale size average higher.

Last year we averaged about $35 per participant, and typically covered tournaments with 200-250 athletes, so you can do the math from there.

As for the number of shots taken it usually averages between 4,000 to 5,000 per tournament. From that I get a keeper rate of maybe 70%, and about half of those are selected for post-processing .. my main product is an 8X10 collage (for one athlete) and 4X6's. The collages are prepaid and delivered within 3 weeks and the 4X6's are usually printed on-site.

I'm in the process of changing sales to one product only (the 8X10 collage) and also cutting off sales after 50 collages .. makes for a more comfortable workflow.

Not too sure if any of this was helpful or not as you did not mention your specific event.
