Very striking facial features. I do not know under what conditions you were shooting these and if they were willing participants however, it could have paid to use fill in flash to bring the eye into the view. I often shot in bright daylight and have the same issue to deal with (high to extreme contrast)

He has such an unapproachable look on his face. And that 85mm does a great job.

    Carlo,

both are great, the high contrast you achieve fits the subject wonderfully with his striking features and wonderfully serious, tough expression.

Great work indeed! Even the choice of lens is nice!

    Thanks so much for sharing!
    Take care!

Actually I could have used a flash but I didn't have it with me, and then... I would have lost that strong contrast that I really like. As a rule I always ask the permission before shooting a portrait, at that point 80% of Papuan people place them selfs at few meters from you, facing you precisely, standing on attention and loosing every facial expression: this guy was one of those! If you choose to wait a bit to shoot something more natural, you'll have to wait quite a lot because they will be standing there for a while, following you moving the eyes only!

Love the B&W. For some reason, teh eyes make sense being a bit more lost here. I love the contrast, but do wish I could see the eyes a tad more. (But understand the circumstances.)

    Awesoome shot!!
