I spent last week in the Alps, some of the worst weather for photography or skiing. When the weather did clear I managed a few shots.

I love the mountains so it was very disapointing to have such poor weather.

Thanks for looking

I believe that with the wild and wooly weather the potential for REALLY great images increases, such as the first image you postedthumb.gif

I think this helps show the mood a bit moredeal.gif

Thank you for the work, Marc the change in crop and light has made an enormous difference.
The original shot had a temperature of 5800 +8, giving this
    134397456-L.jpg

To neutralize the clouds I pushed the temp to 9800 +22. Having moved that far, I think I got cold feet and didn't push the shadows any more than the default in ACR at 28 Now I see I could have pushed it to double that.

Thanks again for your help. I will do some more work on it and see...

Thank you for the comment. It was just as the sun came up. The clouds cleared just enough to see the summit.

Here is my second attempt, I worked on it last night. Now in the daylight the monitor is struggling to see the detail in the clouds. It prints well enough at 11.5x7 inches.

Let me know if I pushed it too far...

That's much better! I'd be tempted to make it more panoramic and lose some of the black from the bottom. I know it's boring, but putting the top of the lower cloud layer a third up the image rather than a half. This sort of pic really suits a long thin format I think.

    Something like this?

edit: actually, it looks a tad unbalanced with the mountain too low now. Maybe drop the top edge down a bit as well?

Thanks for the crop, I like that. I haven't time to work up another version now, I have to finish packing, Val d'Isere beckons for a long weekend iloveyou.gif

Very nice shots. You shouldn't push it too far IMHO. It already seems there's a fire instead of clouds!!!

Hi Cocasana, I am back, yes I agree with what you say. My final push did go too far.

I will try to reduce the fire a little and see what happens with less saturation. This is obviously not a realistic landscape but it could be an interesting interpretation given Marc's starting point.

    Cheers
