Small fry: things you see when traveling

Took a quickie trip this week.

Saw this in the cab on the way to the airport.

The driver said the unfortunate incident happened in his cab a year ago. He's since bought a new van, and he really, really does not want a repeat performance! First time I've seen a sign like this (I made it bigger for easier reading.)

OK, now we're in the airport for the return trip.

And I have this question: how many times does the postman ring when he's making a delivery to an airport boarding ramp?

Actually, I have another question: WTF is a mailbox doing on an airport boarding ramp? eek7.gif

Okay, so your sign is even better than the one I saw recently:

    73499399.jpg

"Winco Foods will refuse any and all bottle slips that have blood on them"

Why is everyone so freaked out about bodily fluids? :D

Incidentally, your cab photo reminds me of my days working a helitack (flying to wildland fires in a helicopter) crew. The helicopters were contracted out and the pilots used to tell us before EVERY flight, "If you throw up, do it down the front of your shirt or in your hard hat 'cause I don't want a mess in my helicopter!"

Wonder if the cab would still charge if you managed to blow chips down the front of your shirt?

Anyone care to guess what city I visited?

Hell, everyone here does it. Incredibly dangerous, but very few places have passed laws against it. As riders, we both know how scary it is to be near a vehicle with a cell phone gabber, they're in a different world, oblivious.

Gus, I have sat at intersections at 8AM watching folks hurrying to work, and every third driver had a cell phone to their ear as they drove through the intersection in high density early morning traffic. It has become true insanity.

    Ride safe out there, Gus!

Heavy fines here & they often use plain clothes coppers mixing with the public to nail people. No way will i do it....about $300 instant fine & a few points of your lic i think.

We were followed & stopped one day because my wife had her head leaning on her hand as she drove along once. It did look like she was on a phone.

Oh man, where do I start?

    Hair Salon in Stockholm:

On the door to the restrooms in my company's London office:

I swear this is a real intersection, near the northern coast of Washington State.

This was in chicago. Apparently they use Segways to enforce the law in the downtown area. I wanted to ask him what he does with criminals that know how to use stairs.

And back to Stockholm, where I found an entire bar, made of Ice:

You ought to send the Badger's Arse into Jay Leno... for his "headlines"...
    I loved it.

    re: drivers using cell phones
The other day on way home in standard north Jersey traffic three lanes crawling slowly literally everyone around me at one point (approx 7) were on there phone. Thankfully we were only going 2 mph.

also remember day NY state law prohibiting driving while calling went into effect... some poor guy pulled over to the sholder make a call & got killed when he was rear ended...
    I take lots of pictures--sometimes I make a photograph.

There are two labs that do climate/environmental/atmospheric science.

One is NOAA's (a nice facility.) And the other is NCAR/UCAR (National Center for Atmospheric Research and University Corporation for Atmospheric Research.)
