SD Card

This morning I got up and went to get some clothes out of the dryer. Low and behold I came across a 1 GB SD Card that I had washed and dried.

I put it into the card reader and wow.....the files were still safe and secure. What do I hear? Should I trash the card because it has been washed and dried? Or should I just go ahead and use it in my camera --- til I see a problem?

    Toss it.

If you can afford to, that is.

Otherwise, you'll worry everytime you use it. They're pretty cheap, peace of mind is worth it, IMHO.

    What brand is it?

What type of warranty does it have?

Tossing any memory card that still works to me is just frivilious...but then I have to work for a living.:D..:D..:D.

Here is what I would do and I am presuming that you have at least one back up card....keep it and use it for nature or wildlife until it throws a fit......or send it to me :D to use in either my MP3 Player or GPS unit and I will use it till it throws a fit and then I will call the mfg and have it replaced if it has a 5yr or lifetime warranty :D

I have never had any customer service person from any media company ask if I had washed the card or anything like that....It has always been.."Do you have acard reader hooked to your computer now...if so I need to run a test...ok testing finsished and your card is definitely corrupted...have used a recovery software to save your files...good...we will send you a replacement and a lable forthe return of the corrupt card"....ORRR...."I am emailing you a shipping lable for UPS and we will send the replacemnt as soon as we recieved the corrupt card...should we recover and send the files on the new card.....Thank you have a great day."

A conversation I had with Lexar the lines after the Orrr was the end of a second conversation with lexar....so the 1st replacement was sent prior to me sending in dead card and the second was because people had started not returning the dead cards...also on the first time I did not have any type of back up and all I could get in Wichita was very slow ametuer cards at the list price of the pro cards....and the retailers here wonder why a lot of their business is now shopping the east and west coasts....Lexar also overnited my 1st card because of my predictament....

I never thought about warranty. iloveyou.gif I will use it for something else..... till it zaps out. Then, I 'll call the company and return it. It is a San Disk Card.

My biggest concern was if it had any moisture that it might harm my new camera.

Can you get your hands on a couple of packs of dessacant....or a quicker fix is the blow dryer...give it a good drying before using it try it out...and if it throws a fit and doesn't want to work...call san disk.....

Here I was hoping for a free 1gb SD card...:Drolleyes1.gifrofl

    Glad I could help...

Dont worry about it (all the anal retentive pixel peepers can stop reading at this point)...all my cards have been washed several times.

The soda in the washing powder cleans the contacts better than anything ive ever seen.

    haha...that was awesome.

the beautiful thing about solid state memory (i.e., your sd card) is that their are no moving parts. just don't take it for a dip in salt water and it should be fine.

if you use a hair dryer, make sure you use the low heat setting, because the high heat could damage / melt the internals of the card or could warp the plastic casing.
