There is this hill on the local golf course known throughout the community as Death Hill. It's where the big kids go to sled when there is enough snow. Yesterday late afternoon there was enough snow.

Tje teenagers built a jump and practiced their "360s".

It's the best part of a good snow storm here in Newton, MA.

    Fun in the snow
Great action shots! It's nice to see everyone enjoying the snow. A reward after all the digging out?

Number five works for me. The yellowish glare in the background and the skis that form an X...very cool...

Great stuff Rutt. My kid went sledding the other day and I wimped out and stayed in the car. The parking area was on top of the hill and to get good shots I would have had to go to the bottom. 10 degrees, 18 inches of snow, tennis shoes. No deal.

10 years ago, while living in on a big farm spread near chatham new york (up near albany), we had a hill that was great for sledding. after one particularly juicy snowstorm, i took my then 8 and 7 year old boys out for some sledding... well, the recent snow was actually layered on top of an older snow, which had iced over on top, and so we take our first run, on one of those old-fashioned wooden tobaggans... and let me tell you, it was like the bobsled run at lake placed! we quickly picked up so much speed... we were thrilled! that is, until we crossed the point of no return, lost control, and went off a cliff about 10' down into a small river. crash! i went unconscious for a little bit, woke up, flat on my back in about a foot of running icy water. one kid thrown across the stream, screaming his head off.. the other, back up on the top of the cliff, smiling like the cheshire cat lol3.gif

well, i grabbed up the crying kid, and we had a walk of about 1/2 mile back to the house. there wasn't enough hot cocoa to warm us up, if you know what i mean heheh and i had an eggplant the size of rhode island on my butt umph.gif

ever since then, the boys called that place "death hill"

    fun shots, rutt thumb.gif

That could easily happen with the right snow in this place. There is a little creek at the bottom. But it has to be pretty slick for that to be an issue. Yesterday, there was just too much powder at the bottom.

I remember that hill very well. I grew up down the street in the 50's and 60's when they had
a tow rope on the hill. One of my friends put his sled into the brook at the bottom of the hill and
and actually almost died from a ruptured spleen. As ten or 11 year olds we dragged him on his sled to one of the houses facing the course by the club house to get them to call an ambulance. It took two trips to Newton Wellesley for them to diagnose Michael correctly, but he recovered OK. Death hill is a good name for it.
