I got my 300D back from maxmax today :barb

I took a couple of test shots... but the sun was down already so they don't tell me much other than the camera works at least.

I searched the forum but didn't seem to find much.

What's the best white balance to use in camera?

and afterwards what white balance do I use in the raw conversion? Whats the best way to convert these to B&W? I always did channel mixer at 50/25/25 with the green sony nightshot IRs.. but that either doesn't work well with the canon or perhaps the fact that it was practically dark out is the problem. :scratch

    Dani,
Start here for RAW and customize to your liking.

Late afternoon the sun has to punch through a LOT of atmosphere so I would expect very little IR to register well.

For jpg, you can try setting white balance to green grass in full sun - that will give you some pretty nice looking results to play with. You can also cut the soft plastic covers off 3-ring binders to make targets - I use a blue and a green one for setting custom white balance for jpg shots on my converted Sony F717 to get some nice color IR.

ah ha! I knew I'd seen that somewhere but then I couldn't find it again and didn't pull up anything in a forum search.

    Thank you for the link!

There are some good links at the IR Buzz Blog:

Also if you are serious about IR, join us at the IR group at Yahoo:

Finally, I know you mentioned B&W, but if you want to try false color IR, there is some good info at the following site, including a Photoshop action (2nd link) that does most of the PP for you.
