Darkness Falls 2
My assistant wants to get some business cards done so I took this shot during our job last weekend.
Main light on my right feathered on the subject. Background light around 2-3 stops lower than main to separate his head from the BG.
these are what our business cards looks like..... and on the reverse side is the full B/W image.

But, I bet it looks awesome with that business card, though!

The extreme lighting placement rocks this image! I even like how intriguing it is to see the implied silhouette of the dreadlocks on the dark side of the image.
i agree, the lighting is really wonderful, creative and effective.
As far as the subject's right side, I either want to see no catchlight or more detail. having a catchlight in crushed shadows looks odd. but that's a very minor crit.
I also really think the blue color cast works well.
[also LOVE your business card design. it's brilliant....really. so many photographers have cards that imply they have no aesthetic or design sense...not good! could we see the back? don't forget your URL ]

Also love your card design. Simple design but with a strong (positive) message, not only about the people, but about the business too.
Only thing (if it is worth doing anything at all) would be that I notice 3 highlights in the hair that stick out brighter than any others. They are in a triangular shape and I notice my eye is drawn to them. So perhaps they could be darkened slightly. There is also a spot that to me is too bright sitting right between his eyes. But those are only minor and obviously haven't worried anyone else, so it might be just me.
Anyway, I think you should not only use the shot for the business cards but print the shot big and hang it up as well.

Besides that that guy looks damned good....aeh...what did I want to say?
Nope, I think, I go with the opinion for a bit (tiny bit) more light on the dark side as well. Just a hint (maybe)
Or maybe I need to come back a couple more times to look at the image more often *whistles innocently*
The model/assistant's name is Raoul Hardin btw, always thought it sounded like a porno name.
Thanks for the great comments and suggestions. I will definitely pay better attention next time. This was pretty much a "hey can you stand over there and look modelish for a second" kind of deal.
