I have been trying to find out what type of duck this is, and there is nothing in the bird book.

I think this is a cross of some sort, and there are two things that I can think of. Mallard/Black Duck or Gadwall/Black duck. Can some one ID this type of duck?

I thought so as well, and the confusing part is that white on the chest of this duck, and that's why I think that this is a cross of some sort.

I cannot seem to see any images in my search on the web of a cross that would point me to the ID of this one. That's why I thought that I would ppost it on here in hopes to get this one figured out.

    Thanks Maestro.

Marvelous shot, regardless of the bird. You have a very clear and crip image, very nice thumb.gif

Thank you very much for the kind words with this duck image, I'm happy that you liked this shot, but it's still driving me crazy with the ID though.

    Thanks for the comments Shepsmom.

Nice image! I'm with Dennis on the Black Duck hybrid
According to serveral sources the Black duck is very commonly hybrid ( must be a party duck). Your Duck looks exactly like National Geo's Black duck illustrations plus the white breast. Or not!headscratch.gif

I also think it's a black Duck mix. Great capturewings.gif

Thanks for the feedback on this image, I will have to check out this site and see more about these birds. Off to National Geo after here. Thanks again.

No idea about the ID, but your capture is awesome.

    Dennis,

    Check in this thread: http://www.digitalgrin.com/showthread.php?t=56011
There is a duck in the series that is called a smew that looks sort of like yours. It may be another lead.
