I really like how close you seem to be, and how you are so low to the snow. Such an intimate portrait of the Cardinal. Were you lying down to get this image? Nice capture!

The Exif data says 700mm(?) Fish.

I took the liberty of looking at his Gallery at smugmug http://westhighland.smugmug.com/

I would highly recommend that other people do so also. He has some superb images. His Avian gallery is outstanding. Most of them have been captured with a 10D.

He has external links turned off. He has an extensive collection of lovely bird images, as well as many other subjects there. Outstanding. Greaper will love his gallery also.

Thanks All.

The Exif on these are a bit off.. Yes effective length was 700mm (500mmF4 with a 1.4TC). This was shot at ISO400 F8@800. I am not sure why it shows F2.8. He was about 3 meters way

Also thanks for the comments on my Avian gallery. I have only been at this for about a year and a half.. Got the Nature bug really this Spring and been bleeding money for all this cool equipment. I am in the process of cleaning out some old images from when I started.

I shoot with a 10D I bought a while back. I have been spending money on Glass, tripods,Gimbal heads and a Truck. Some shots you see are from my wife with her D-Rebel or me when I grab it. Most shots are with the 500 or a 100-400 with the TC on and off.

I belong to a group here on LI (www.nwpli.com) who have really helped me get better quickly, wonderful people. Also did a day in the field with Chas Glatzer (www.shootthelight.com) he is an amazing teacher. I would suggest time with him for anyone. A master at exposure and light.

I asked if you were lying in the snow when you took this - it certainly looks like it.
Good long glass for birding is a major investment. Let alone a good tripod and Wimberly head, etc. Welcome to dgrin. Like I said I really liked your Avian Gallery.

Pathfinder... Sorry yep I was in fairly low in the snow, tripod legs were all the way out :D ... Long lens compressed it to look like I was lying down.

Thanks again for the comments.
