Today was a rainy miserable day... just perfect for one of my initial ideas for challenge#1. This is Tech Cominco Smeltering Plant. Your feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

Gorgeous. I dunno if that's an appropriate word to describe an industrial landscape, but I rather like it =c)

Only thing that I notice on the second look is the power lines. I think it would look much better if they were not around. Just the Factory in a valley with the steam/smoke Rising.

third one for sure, it's a bit more dynamic, it's more about the steam than the plant - although there's a horizontal band of steam that's whiter that the rest and that catches my eye first.

That Trail smelter is a dirty monster. I was through that plant 5 years ago, pretty impressive operation they have going on. I'd work on an angle with the Columbia River integrated somehow, heck you might even be able to get at steamy if the top of Red is above the cloud deck.

How's the snow at Red? I was up in Nelson in Feb and we had great snow.

What a great subject for the challenge!! I like #2 best. Is that full or selective color? Whatever, I like the color, especially the yellow with its suggestion of sulferous fumes. I like the vertical format too. #1 fits the theme but I found it distractingly busy. #3 is better, but I find the horizontal format boring and, for me, the b&w conversion lacks the extra pop I see in #2. Just one woman's opinion, FWIW. :D

Now after posting "The Flying Steamshovel" I think that I prefer it to my initial take. Any comments?

I'd go for the first, although as others have said - the power lines are a little distracting.
