Andy, have you played with it?

My biggest concern would be only about software to handle RAW files (at least via XMP)

I have GPS I use and carry on my belt. I download the track and sync it with the photos. It works very well. It cost more than this unit, but it does a lot more, maps, routing, waypoints, points of interest, etc.

I agree that it's fairly limited. What I like about it is:
    • It ONLY records when shots are taken, hence energy/memory usage is VERY efficient. As an engineer I applaud such design (not that Nikon used it for years:-)
    • Since it's a hot shoe add-on it's obvious whether I'm recording GPS info or not, so I can't forget that I have not switch the unit on.
    • All the GPS combos I saw (like + map, +radio, etc.) get expensive FAST. This device is just priced right, IMHO
    FWIW

that's pretty awesome. especially if you were on vacation in a foreign city and you look at some of your pictures and you can't remember what they're of! you can just look at the exif and then look up the address!!! this is definitely a neat toy.

Patch, can you give us more info on exactly how you download the track and sync with photos?

    Wow, That's really cool looking!

Should be an awesome tool, One question, what do you do when you want to use flash and this at the same time?

    Here is the short version.

I use a Garmin 60CSx, tracks are set to save to the storage card, get the camera/gps times in sync before shooting, download photos and tracks, use GPSPhotoLinker to embed lat/long data in the exif data, then upload to a public smugmug account, finally view via "map this".

    Here is my test gallery.

Answer is simple - location shoot, fill flash, etc.
    I don't understand why they don't provide a pass-through standard hotshoe.
No need to go brand specific, just a standard hotshoe to trigger flash in the manual mode. Then you can use the slot for level, flash, etc.
