Hi, I thought it my be interesting to see what sort of B/W I could produce just using Lightroom, anyway this might be a little over the top but I find it has a certain drama:-

    I like it
Yes it appears a bit pushed but the mood is awsome. A powerful effect I think.

    Actually...
I like it and probably better than a standard conversion. This brings out the drama and contrast creating a greater dynamic range and providing a mood that would otherwise not exist. Nothing is blown out or overdone. Nice work.

I like it too, very nice conversion. I'm useing Lightroom also, did you use one of the presets, or did you adjust on your own? I really like it, although I don't have much experience with any other programs other than Canons stuff that came on the CD.

I like what you're doing, but yes, I think you've gone a little too far. I think you could back off a bit, retain some detail in the shadows and still have the same effect. And a more powerful picture, IMO.

Thanks everyone for replying, I actually really like Lightroom and my workflow with it is getting faster all the time. This was a really just messing with every slider just to see how far I could push the image, I didn't use any presets and I like the overall effect, however it has introduced technical issues that wouldn't stand up to printing at any great size.

If I wanted to do a more realistic conversion I'd still have to move to Photoshop but for images that you get right in camera I think Lightroom's all you need.

Assuming LR does not offer masking still, and you are attempting to create the very best image not the quickest workflow!
I view LR as the second stage in the evolution of a photographers work, with Photoshop being the 3rd. The main reason for this is based on working a image in post either globally or regionally. I agree with your image choice in this conversion as it works well with all the shapes in the clouds and trees. However, in order to get the most out of this scene, I believe you would need to work it by altering contrast in certain regions.
