Airport Plans To Destroy Eagle Nests. This story is in today's Orlando Sentinel on the front page. The Sanford Airport officials plan to destroy nests belonging to three pairs of bald eagles and several chicks " because birds are hanging around runways and pose a danger."

You can read the whole story here: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/seminole/orl-eagles1907mar19,0,3006853.story?coll=orl-news-headlines-seminole

People are fighting it but doesn't look like they are having much luck.

Its a sad story and the really sad thing is that I don't think destroying the nests will resolve their problem. They are looking for the easiest solution and that rarely works.

At least the Audubon's Society raptor Center will care for the chicks (they do extemely fine work).

This is a continuing problem here in Florida as our out of control development eats away at the territory of our wildlife. Last year when they started building a new medical center in my area they were horrified to find that the site had a caracara nest. Since the caracara is endangered they had to halt construction for a couple of days. During the delay a state expert "determined" that the construction wouldn't harm the caracaras so they started again. The developers had made larger campaign donations than the caracaras so that outcome was predetermined.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thanks Jester and Harry the for story and the follow up. I found it very interesting have a strong interest in Eagle as well as flying, but I believe you are correct Harry in the human incursion of their natural habitat.
