augh... I've got the dough right now. I've got to buy a 2.8 within 2 weeks....(for some work)

I've got a D50 (the vr works with this right??) I'd like to upgrade my camera to 10 mp. (d80) but.............augh should I spend it all on the VR, or go for the cheaper sigma & upgrade my camera in a month or two???:dunno

any thoughts would be helpful...

How do you intend to use the camera and lens?

i have a d50 and a 70-200 f2.8 VR. the lens is AMAZING...I shoot just about everything with it if i can fit it into 70mm or bigger. 6mp is plenty big for stuff that i shoot, I do a wide range of stuff these days.

Go for the glass. The lens (optics and VR) has far more to do with image quality then the camera does.

the VR wont be useful in shooting sports, seeing as you're shooting at a higher shutter speeds.

it could be useful with the birds, depending on how much light is around while you're shooting. although 200mm is pretty short to be shooting birds. i use mine mainly for sports and portraits.
