tough choice made
Hi you'll :wave
As I related earlier I had a choice between an easy heron shot and atough eagle shot. I opted for the eagle and saw the heron fly off as Imoved past him to take shot at the eagle.
I ended up with this medicore perch shot :uhoh

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

...but not bad either. I sure would like to say it was my capture.
Still a good idea Harry. You went for the toughie and didn't get what you envisioned. Welcome to my world......
Just kiddin The perch shot isn't bad, at least you got most of the bird. But, the lighting was tough for that one. I think that's where a Better Beamer might have helped. It looks like you were far enough away that it probably would have helped light up the bird's right side. Same with the flying shot. I think it would have lit up his wings some.
Those really nice bird shots are tough to capture :uhoh Talk about your low hit rates....lol But, what an acheivement when you do finally get a good one
Thanks for sharing and glad you weren't eaten by gators, or didn't get swallowed up by quicksand :lol
Steve
Ric,
That sucker was really backlit. I was lucky to get what I got.

Hey, my birds flew into trees, I have photos of those, too. Tee tiny dots, but they are often in focus.
ginger (Not as prettty as yours though.)
How well I know about needing long lenses :cry As I have said in a few other threads, even 500mm isn't long enough sometimes. The TC's are a good idea
Awwwww, Linda is such a sweetie (I mean, look how long she's put up with you.....lol) she won't bat an eye about having to take in boarders to support her dear hubby's passion :lol OK, so you're right, I'll pray for you.
RE: flash sync. The 20D tops out @ 1/250 but the internal and external flashes have high-speed sync options. Are you sure the Nikon flashes don't allow you to use whatever speed you want, like the Canon flashes do?

I'm glad you didn't see my response to Steve above. I'm glad you enjoyed the pics. We talk about gear a lot but it all boils down to the pics. Your shots are fine btw.

What kind of tripod and head are you going to use for your 500mm and 1000mmm lenses Harry? You won't be hand holding them much - trust me on this. They won't be cheap either, will they??
