HI Y'all,

Killdeer

American Bittern

tri-colored heron

immature ibis

green heron

white pelicans

limpkin
131950400-L.jpg

and finally the Stupids
131950411-L.jpg

This merry group happily walked through the wetlands and enjoyed watching their yappy little mutts run up to the water's edge. To my great dismay no gator was hungry that day but maybe next time. They failed to notice the glares they received from two photographers who shots were ruined when their merry little dogs chased the shooters' subjects off.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Super set Harry. The close up of the Limpkin is beautiful. It wouldn't take much for those dogs to become gator food.

I don't know how your shots could be any better. They just ooze with quality.

BTW, those aren't REAL dogs IMO. Not to be negative, but, you see this kind of behavior everyday in life. (no thought for others) The sad part is that they have no clue that they are being a pain in the ass. When they were young, they probably let there kids bug the hell out of others too. Grin and bare it is all you can do.

Thanks Louie, the limpkin was occupied in getting its snail opened up and swallowed so I was able to get really close to it.

If those good folks keep repeating there behavior those mutts will be a gator happy meal sooner or later. Now that would be a photo op. naughty.gif

    Very nice work........

Is this a place where people normally cannot or do not walk their dogs? Just curious.

Great Limpkin Harry. That wouldn't be the one that I was patiently waiting for to catch a snail when you nonchalantly drove up, got out of your car, and instantly got shots of him eating a snail? I swear the birds there know you and give you the better angles. It was really neat to watch this guy picking out the snails, carying them to shore and then opening them up. Have you seen any baby Limpkins yet?

    Thanks Mr. B.

There are no prohibitions against dogs at the wetlands. The place is man made and was intended to attract wildlife to it. Its part of a water treatment plant and the water comes from the plant's run-off.

Most of the folks who visit the place try not to disturb its inhabitants. Also folks will usually try to avoid distrubing the activites of others. For example, if I see the car ahead of me stopped and its driver taking a shot I will wait for him/her to get their shot before driving by them.

Now as for those cute little puppy dogs. Its cool to walk a dog through there but you want to have them on a short leash. You do not want, I'm assuming one cares for their fluffy little critter, running up to the water's edge.

There's this sign that you pass as you enter the wetlands
    71574739-L.jpg

There are scads of gators at the wetlands. Many of them would not hesitate to make little ole Snuffy a snack. Also Great Blue Herons would have no problem making a little puppy a meal either.
    38033948-L.jpg

So, its cool to walk a dog through the wetlands. The question is do you want to have the pup when you return home? If yes, don't let it run loose or up to the water's edge.

Thanks Marina. We did have an amazing collection of cameras, glass and tripods at the shoot.

If the mutts became a gator meal it would be a death by stupid owner rather than because of a gator doing what comes naturally. It would be one hell of a photo op. rolleyes1.gif
