New Mexico Wildflowers

I've heard New Mexico has gotten a lot of rain this winter and the wildflowers should be good. Does anyone know when the wildflowers should peak at Carlsbad Caverns Nat'l Park? Any recommendations for great flowers in other parts of the state as well? Thanks!

Here's a report from DesertUSA about the NM wildflower season prospects. Be sure to check their site periodically for updates as well thumb.gif

Feb 14, 2007 Steve Reports: Conditions favor southern New Mexico for the spring wildflower bloom in 2007, while mild drought plagues southern California and southwest Arizona deserts. Southern New Mexico received ample rainfall from July to September 2006, and winter has been damp as well. The oceanic/atmospheric circulation pattern known as "El Niño" kicked into high gear in December and continues to deliver almost weekly rain or snow to Lordsburg, Deming, Las Cruces, Alamogordo and Carlsbad. Accompanying cool weather means that the bloom is still waiting. Southern NM is higher than deserts in adjacent states and typically experiences the explosion from mid-March (below 5000') to mid-April (above 5000').
