I hope in this version a humbleness is more stately pronounced (at least compared to the Conductor shot).
Humble Beginning (of a stately future, I must add:-)

I would set a black and white point on that shot, if I were you. It's got a muddy cast to it.

Thank you , totaly forgot about it :bash .
I replaced the image, please hit refresh.
It's a rather secluded location in one of the Oak Park parks. I only knew of it becuase we used to take our snack lunches over there and strolled around.
Here, I added geo info: http://maps.smugmug.com/?feedType=geoAlbum&Data=2621192
I actually pinpointed its localion, this tree is huge, you can clearly see it on the aerial view. Funny, if you go by the main road and don't take the little detour North, you may as well totally miss it.
Thank you! :saurora
This is great thinking Nik. I like!

While this wasn't exactly my initial idea (I was visualizing something a bit different, but it didn't work out well in the end), it was an instant hit the moment I saw it on a big screen...
Now I need to think stately... Tall buildings, capitols, churches, mountains are all taken... Need a fresh idea...
Cheers!
Thank you, appreciate the compliment!

Thank you, partner!
I'm wondering what's yours gonna be...
You made a much better image of one of my ideas! I was looking for a sprouted seed, but out here we don't have a lot of acorns like we did back east. A problem of being bi-coastal :-) your image is perfect! love it! great job.

Now, where's plan b?
Matthew
I take it as a great compliment!
As I mentioned earlier, this wasn't exactly the thing I was thinking of since I didn't even hope to have a setup like this. Yet I went looking for a decent oak, and this one was a second one in my list of potentials. When I came down there and started to look for the actual acorns (which, in fact, were essential part of my original vision) I noticed the few sprouts and immediately switched gears - you know how it happens..
Thanks!
Listen to this, you'll get a kick out of it: I spent the whole week looking for acorns, and I live in a city called Thousand Oaks (not for nothing ).
I finally managed to collect some, but it was very hard. They were almost all gone.
Same here. I want to produce a stately image, too. Not sure if I resubmit (since I like this one a lot), but I want to be able to have something decent, on a level, something I can be personally proud of...
I have a few ideas, but they are all rather "theme induced ok shots" rather than "great picture that happens to match the theme, too", yaknowwhatimsaying...
Well, we still have a week and a whole weekend. I wish you to find your muse, and will be surely calling mine soon and tell her to hurry up:-)
(I've only got the week - flying to New Zealnand on Saturday and Sunday!)
Matthew
Great idea (stately mansion humbled by the fire)!
I can almost see it, in dark BW, hish contrast plus glow, mix of oversmooth and oversharp, sort of creepy.. Underworld style without bluish tint ... mmh
Are you sure you can't PS it enough?
And the whole New Zealand thing... I bet you'd have a nice photoops for the next round!
You are not the only one who's been hunting for acorns in March (acorns around here are a dime a dozen in September but extremely rare this time of year). I have been working on the same idea for the last week. I nearly punted on the Oak and went for a pine cone/pine tree, but just today I found my own substitute for the acorn that might just work.
The way the weather report looks at the moment the earliest I am going to get in a shot at my spin on this idea is Wedneday. Hopfullly I'll have something by the end of the week. The coming week is going to be quite busy, so I may have to sit this cycle out.
Thanks!
It's really funny how the minds work alike :-)
After I have always become desparate seeking the acorns I also started to think about pine version...
I am hoping the weather will work out and you'll get a shot at it:-)
Basking in the shadows of yesterday's triumphs'.
Thanks, man!
Great shot, definitely top 10. Damn ;-)

Did you get an angle view finder or were you on your stomach ?
Great picture !
Thank you very much!
This was definitely one of the cases when I was missing one. I was flat on my stomach, and even then it was "too high". I think I finally took several shots "blindly", with my camera right on the ground and chimping after each shot. You can say it was technically difficult shot..
