Whooohooooo!!!! I found a bug ... I found a bug :clap :ivar
Got home from work this afternoon, did two lots of hand washing to save water rather than use the washing machine.

I go outside to hang the washing out, and low and behold I see this little buggar eating my plant :rofl
Ohhhhhh joy! rapture! I says to meself :lust
So I ran back inside, put a 20mm Kenko Tube together with my Canon 100mm, and an external flash with a Diffuser on it.

These shots are hand held, holding the 580X flush up against the barrel of the lens with an extention cord attached,
so the flash head is against the tip of the Lens on the camera in one hand,
and the other hand also holding the camera and firing button.

I also had a rubber flexible Lens hood attached to Lens.

Enjoy........ Skippy :D

I like these little guys, they may be pests but heck I let them live :D

138437393-L.jpg

They eat that plant prickles and all, that sharp part doesn't seem
to phase them one little bit, it all goes down the hatch!

138437394-L.jpg

Now this little fellow was on a different plant, and it must be related to
the other caterpillars on the other plant, except that it was almost albino looking.
He was the same size as the other one, but not the same colour.

Nice Skippy! These are little bugs I'm actually okay looking at! The second shot is my favorite...because the albino looking fellow is a bit creepy! :)

Nice Skippy. Typically caterpillars may leave holes in your plants, but they will not do such severe damage that it will kill the host.

Well BigAl in fact you cant see the eyes unless you do a Macro.
The head on these Caterpillars is smaller and flatter than
a Match Head, so it's very, very, very small indeed. nod.gif

This is why it is handy to have the Kenko Tubes.
Even though I was using a Macro Lens, the Kenkos will get even closer.

They just look big in my shots :D thanks for looking ..... Skippy

    Jill

It's very bulky Jill, and hard to hold, maybe easier for a guy with big hands,
but I struggle to hold it off the camera.

I can't get the flash were I want it without taking it off the camera.
I found if you take the flash off and have it so the flash is not bent
like an L so have it straight like this -- > I
It's a little easier to hold it straight along the barrel of the lens.

I did not have the big lens hood that comes with the 100mm Macro,
instead I have a flexible rubber hood that I use on my 50mm.

Give it a try, it's awkward, but it works :D
    Thanks for looking ...... Skippy

Hi there Gary, the plant is not infested with them,
its only got 3 that I saw, and the white Albino one was the only one
    on the other plant.

That plant is quite sharp with those points, but the caterpillars eat them
    so I don't mind :D .... THanks for looking .... Skippy

I never even saw any grasshoppers this year,
I'm sure there was some around somewhere,
but I didn't even see any out at the airfield.

Hope I can find something else soon, thanks for commenting.... Skippy

Hi ShepsMom, on the orginal of the Albino looking one,
if you go in real close it looks like a wrinkled old thing it does,
more so than it appears in the picture.

I haven't seen one of those White ones before, just the orange ones.

    Thanks for looking........ Skippy

We just don't have a lot of colourful things down my way.

Up in the hotter more tropical parts of Australia,
they have very very colour and much larger bugs.

I really like your images! I too like bugs--just not on me:D. I like the albino one--mostly because he's the ugliest!! Bugs are just now starting to stir here. Can't wait to start photographing some buggers myself. It's really nice to find a group of people who like to photograph and/or view photos of bugs. Most of my friends and family just don't get it!

Funny you should say most of your friends and family don't like bugs,
    ....mine are the same

I'm just so intrigued at what you can see in a Macro,
that you cannot see with your naked eye when your looking at bugs.

All those tiny hairs, the structure of their eyes, their odd mouths,
the amount of eyes some of them have.....

Lots of things are interesting on a bug :D yup this is a nice forum for sharing bugs .... thanks for commenting tlee :D .... Skippy
