Im not sure I get it (humble) that is, it looks like hard labour though, but thats only my opinion and Im not even sure that my entry is humble, so my advice would be if you really love the photo enter it, which is what I did. Don't know if this helps or not.
Reshoot I think. I think you need to show more clearly what it is they are doing and get closer to their hands or faces. Can you get down in the hole with them? So the shot is from a more personal angle?

I like this shot much better. I like the soft B&W background, it works for me. Perhaps try and clone out the small bit of bicycle wheel showing form the left edge?

I like Humble Dreams much better also... but the gaussian blur/bokeh effect is really weird... might wanna clean that up.

I made the background blurred because it is very very unflatterring.... however I would really like it if I could somehow soften the hard bounderies between the blurred and non blurred part... Any links to any tutorials etc., please..... I am not really good at post processing.... I will try cloning out too, if I can do it well It will go away!
