Lenses Question

OK.. To go along with my "Which camera" thread, I thought I would pose a question about lenses... For a newbie who has only used small camera's without detachable lenses, can someone give me a quick overview of the different sizes and what the numbers mean?

For example, I was looking at a camera that came with a 18-135mm lense.. What does that mean?
