Nice handling of the exposure with all that brown. Good job photographing we do not see much around here. Were these on a reserve or wild in NM?

They sure look healthy. And for a second, I thought you bagged a rare two-headed species in the second shot.

No reserve. These were free ranging along NM HW 58 west of I-25 on the way to Cimarron NM.

I have photographed antelope in Colorado, Wyoming, western Kansas, and New Mexico. Antelope can frequently be seen along the backroads of north eastern New Mexico in the grassy plains. I would think they can be found in the western Oklahoma panhandle and north western Texas panhandle as well.

They are skittish if you try to exit your vehicle.

But that is really two antelope, not the famous two headed antelope seen at the circus freak show.

Nice shots, PF! I missed these first time around.

They're a lot bigger and healthier than the ones I saw in Arizona last weekend. I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for them as I travel around the southwest.

They're great! I love how they sort of blend in, sort of don't. Were you pretty far from them?

I love the composition in the first and overall tonal range in the rest.

I think yours were a bit younger, Joel.

These seemed to have a little bigger horns.

Antelope range from lower Canada to northern Mexico in the western states where there are no fences. They do not do well at all where the land is fenced, because they cannot jump a fence in any way. They will sometimes crawl under a fence if possible.

I shot these last spring on the way to Angelfire Ski resort in New Mexico. I had to check the exif 700mm 20D 1.6 Mag factor so yup, they were a long way off.

I don't think I have ever gotten closer than maybe a 80-100 yards, Stephanie. They are very wary. They always know you are there, and keep an eye on you.

They can run like the wind - some sources say they can run almost 70 mph - as fast as a cheetah.

Thanks Maestro. F8 at 700mm doesn't leave very much in the way of depth of field.

    Here's another frame I liked..
