Hello, fellow photo scanner people. I am in the process to buy the Epson V 700 and would like to know if anyone has some experience with this scanner. I have a bunch of various format negatives to scan. I have never used one before, but it looks like nowdays scanner are pretty reliable and come with lots of software.
I am working on getting a website with Smugmug, but would like to scan some negatives first.
Any input?
Thank you for your time

That placed the V700 firmly at the top of the list of scanner options when I do invest in one (starting to shoot a Mamiya 645Pro and inherited a cabinet full of family photos from the last 100+ years).
There's a forum there which looks like it has some activity with people who are using these scanners a lot. Might get some good information there.
Now, I have borrowed my sister's older Epson 2450 with SilverFast SE from back then (probably a few versions old right now). I found there was a bit of a learning curve to it, but you can get really good results out of it. I expect the current version of SilverFast is even better, and upgrading to the ai better still. There is also the option of VueScan which is supposed to rival SilverFast. For some examples of what I was able to get out of the older equipment & software, look at my site under Portfolio/Medium Format.

The V-700 is simple to install and works very nicely. I have not tried scanning any color negatives with it, but the Epson software seems to work very well.
I previously used VueScan from hamrick.com to drive my flatbed and film scanners. I have not felt the need for VueScan with the Epson software this time. But I may give it a try again in the future as I like VueScan quite a bit. Having one program to drive all scanners is preferable to me.
