I was trackside today and it was great craic. I wanted to try a few new things. I bought a 300 2.8 last year and I wanted to try it with the 2x extender to fill the frame with the bikes. I also want to try the proof delay setting on the galleries so I haven't pp'ed most of the photos. I saved them at quality 5 and uploaded them with a 7 day delay. It does make uploading a lot faster :)

anyway onto the photos:

I would really like #1 in the second group, if you would do a tighter crop and get rid of the open space on the right.

I'm starting to pp a few of yesterday's shots:

Using the 2x extender on the 300mm worked out ok. The shots are a little soft and it is hard to shoot with a 600mm from a monopod but it did help to fill the frame with the bikes. I was able to shoot at spots where the bikes were just too far away last year. I still had to crop some of the pics but, at some spots around the track, i was able to fill the frame.

I really like the composition on this shot. Isn't it nice when the competitors line up real nice for us! :) But I think you've over-done the PP. To me there is too much yellow, especially in the grass. My opinion.

Seamus, I'm will Bill on the PP...

Just a wee bit too much ooomph there fella! For example in your first post #7 to me is bang on...

Nice to see sidecars. You only et one opportunity to shoot sidecars over here during the AMA season at Road America and it's always fun to watch (and then hear the AMA riders moan about the oil being dropped on the track....)

i was happy with no 7 also. That's a full frame 600mm shot and was what I was trying to do. I had hoped to get pics with the bike filling most of the frame.

The sidecars are mental !! Seeing the passengers with kneesliders on their ar*es says something about their mental state :)

I will tone down the pp, I did get a little carried away with it :)

    thanks for the feedback thumb.gif

yeah gary, that's a big crop which i was trying to avoid. I was too far away from the bikes at that spot. It is early in the season tho', plenty of time to get it right :)
