Mind Numbing - Nikon Teleconverter madness
By trail and error, I think I've answered my own question.
I have a (Watch carefully...) AF Nikkor 80-200MM 1:2.8D ED Lens.
I wanted to use a AF-S TC-14EII Teleconverter. Duh... it's not a AF-S lens. Alphabet soup strikes again... the converter will not mount to the lens.(Good thing I rented it as opposed to bought it...)
Sooooo.... IS there a teleconverter for a simple AF (not AF-S or AF-I) lens? Or if I try to use a teleconverter will I be stuck with a MF operation on a AF lens?
(And as I wait for the peanut gallery to weigh in... I'm looking for 3rd party attempts to solve this problem... A company named Kenko sees to put out something... but I've A- Never heard of them B- can't get any pictures good enough to identify the tell-tale Nikon AF screw.)

I have a Tamron-f AF N-AFd BBAR MC7 2X TC that works with my AF 300/4 ED-IF. (No AFS on this lens. Just ol' AF.)
Don't know if 2 stops is what you're looking for... Here's a 1.4x version FA:
