Password Dilema

Regarding Gallery passwords.

Because I use my site for business and personal photos I need to know if it is possible to password this gallery on my homepage "Family ScrapBook" which contains so far 16 galleries from different family gatherings. This main gallery is where I want a password..once my family and friends enter this main gallery no other password would be needed to view the other 16 contained in the "Family Scrapbook" Gallery. Locking my entire site is not beneficial, nor is P/W protectecting each of those 16 galleries I mentioned. Basically I want it kept private from general public, and I want my family to not be annoyed with having to enter a PW to browse each of these galleries.....HELP:scratch

If this is not in place, for Pro account users it should be. IMHO Flexibility is a must when it comes to privacy. Otherwise my Pro acount is not going to serve my purpose:cry

So you want a password for a 'category' and not galleries, right? That would be nice, but I don't know how to do it (or if it's possible).

So, I've never really taken the time to figure out sharegroups, but I think this is what sharegroups are all about. If I understand them, you would set a group of galleries to private, and give access to them to people in certain sharegroups - without passwording them. As I've said I have not figured this out or ever used it, but I think your situation is just what it is set up for.

Trish, give all the galleries in that category the same password thumb.gif Once they enter one password, it will work for the other galleries with the same password.

You can do this with Dev's SmugBrowser here. Right click on any level and pick
"bulk update" and set a password for all galleries under it.

If hiding the category from your homepage is an option, check out this post: http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=48082

Ok, if I understand you; give all the galleries in that category the same password. Once they enter the PW in one gallery..it will allow them to view all galleries without having to enter PW??
I thought I had tried this and they still had to enter a PW even if it was the same...if thats the case that is still a PIA and really not what I want for ease of viewing.

In this day and age of safety and security..I don't understand why it is so difficult for SmugMug to figure out a way to password anything we need to PW.

I don't feel that the ability to Password a CATEGORY with numerous galleries is an unreasonable request. very aggrevating.

I don't use foxfire so using some secondary software that may be able to do this is not possible.

I don't wish to hide galleries on my homepage.

I am trying to use this program to accomodate my personal and business needs. It is the reason I updated to a ProAccount. I may have to resort to using two separate websites and give up on SmugMug. I understand it is difficult to meet every one's needs and SmugMug has certainly tried.

Is there a reason you won't try Firefox? You do know it's free, right? There's no obligation or anything to try it :D It's such an awesome browsing experience. And the addons, like SmugBrowser make Smug-life so, so easy thumb.gif

This is what I've done. I simply set all the family galleries to private, add them to my Family sharegroup, and email everyone the URL to that sharegroup. Now they can go directly to the family photos and not dig through my whole site--and anyone coming to the site separately doesn't even know those exist as they aren't cluttering up the home page.

    What works for me.
I have this same issue. I solved it by simply assigning the same password to all the galleries.

They are asked once, and unless they clear their cookies, they are never asked again.
