Nice one, Ric. I'll bet that's a heavy crop too, huh? I know the effect. There are tons of red tails out here in the desert, but it's impossible to get close to them. It's really frustrating isn't it? Back in NY it was easier and I was getting shots like this one all the time. Whereas now I'd kill to get that close again. :pissed
Nice capture Ric and everyone should have a 500mm.

Yep! That's a nice one , Joel.
This is about a 65% crop....and is one of the closest in flight shots I've been able to get.
Nice BIF of a Red Tailed Hawk. There are the most numerous hawks in the US but they are extremely skittish and do not like humans getting too close. The only times I have been able to get close are when they are fixated on prey and even then, it's tricky. I have about 6 red tailed hawk locations that I scout regularly hoping to get lucky. Lately, I haven't been lucky.

This was at 420mm (300L f/4 + 1.4 tc).
I found a couple of Hawk nests and scouted shooting locations. I'm going to need some luck to get anything worthwhile.
Thanks, Dave.:D

If you ever run for office, you've got my vote... sure beats that old "chicken in every pot" line I fell for last time!
Love the banking pose captured in this image, Ric!

Oh. I'd take one too!:D
The truth is, I probably would not have got this shot with a 500.
Thanks, Harry.
You can watch these guys forever and never get a chance.....then say screw it and walk back to the car, and one will pop up right over your head!
Thanks, Stephen.
Seems like there's always a trade off!
Thanks, Al.
