Downy wooodpecker seem to be more tolerant of humans taking photos than others. Nice job.

Thanks, Maestro, but I don't know how tolerant he was. This was shot with a Canon XTi and a 100-400 at 400mm x 1.6 sensor size conversion factor and a 2X TC. That means it was shot at an effective 1280 mm. :D

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Wow Dixie, considering you are using a zoom plus the 2X TC, that shot is pretty sharp. Usually, the 2X or even 1.4X TC do not do well with zooms. At least that is what I have heard.

Thanks, Harry. That was nature's backdrop. The background was made up of trees and shadows with one spot where some light was coming through. It did make for a nice look.

Thanks, Maestro. Works pretty well for me. However at f/11 (that's what the 100-400 goes to when used with the 2X TC), ISO 1600, it can get problematic. I had to clean up some of the noise from the high ISO which was primarily in the background area. Then I use nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 for the sharpening.

Thanks, Dallas. I also have a larger red-breasted woodpecker, but he is by far the most shy. Next time I try to shoot him, I am going to pre-focus because I swear he hears the USM focusing and flies everytime I push the shutter halfway down to get the measurements. ...but I'll get him yet. mwink.gif
