Hi Y'all,

If I had to choose one location to shoot in it would be the rookery at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm.

Every time I go up there during its season (April through mid June) its like taking a workshop in wildlife photography. Its easy to get shots there but to get good shots takes a fair amount of work.

Here's a few from my first visit last week.

The woodstorks are flying in for mating season

141996776-O.jpg

the great egrets are doing there "don't ya think I'm sexy" routines
141996792-O.jpg

They get very expressive upon arriving at the nest
141996783-O.jpg

the snowy egrets are all dressed up in their mating colors

141996778-O.jpg

141996750-O.jpg

so are the tri-colors
141996809-O.jpg

everyone is working hard to look good. It should be a good season.

Thanks Ric. It usually works but there's this one male who displays all day and who has built a really fine nest but alas no female has settled down with him yet.

Actually the birds are in the trees because of the gators. The trees are surrounded by water that is filled with gators, hence the name Alligator Farm. The biggest threat to the birds' nests are critters like racoons. The gators elminate that problem so its a perfect place for the birds to nest.

Thanks Ben, no halos on 1 and a slight halo on 2, mostly due to the backlighting.
