Also known as drain flies - found this when setting up some dewdrop shots in the grass.

This is one cute and fuzzy fella, our moth are just nasty looking, they're nothing special to photograph. I usually avoid them things as they're dark and boring. ne_nau.gif

Thanks Skippy and SM for looking and commenting. :)
SM- it's not a moth it's actually a fly that looks like a moth :)

Lovely captures your lordship. Never seen anything like that before. How do you ID your creepy crawlies?

Thanks for the kind comments Awais, photographix and Brigsy :)

Brigsy Bug ID's by a variety of methods- I have a UK Insect guide which will often get you down to family level- then use the internet or sometimes specialist forums like
    http://www.diptera.info/news.php

Luckily I've got a few experts that look at my galleries and often ID bugs for me (I let them use my shots on their sites in return).
After a while at taking bug shots you do get to learn how to identify many bugs yourself ( been at it nearly 2 years now :) ), although some groups like flies generally baffle me unless they are unusual like these moth flies.
I do like to ID the bugs if possible even at a general common name level but am not usually bothered about specific names unless I'm trying to work out if I've seen the particular bug before.
