Raging Cataract Falls

I usually do not think of dramatic landscape opportunities here in Indiana. I think of Indiana landscapes as pastoral, fall scenery, agricultural, or Americana, not heavy weather. Something like this perhaps.

But today I wandered by Cataract Falls during the rain, and we have had quite a bit of rain recently here with the rivers all near flood stage.

I have never seen Cataract Falls this large. In the summer it is usually a gentle stream with a few scattered falls. Not today. This is not a river you would not want to wade in today.

This was Cataract Falls last fall, for comparison

Oh yeah, the last one really conveys the power of the water.

Both the upstream shot last fall and the down stream torrent were shot from the same small area of dry rock located midway between the upstream and the downstream shots.

I was very careful, not a good place to slip and fall Saturday.thumb.gif
