Nikon D70 and SB-800 Question
Hi All,
Quick question... can you fire the SB-800 remotely WITHOUT firing the on board flash?
If so how? I have been able to work out how to use the 800 of camera but I have to fire the on board flash which I don't like.
Cheers

Yes, I believe the Commander mode of the host camera uses a visible pre-flash to setup and trigger any slaved/external compatible flashes.
I think you could divert the on-board flash to trigger the remote, but in Commander mode I think that would mess with your exposure.
The best solution is probably an SU-800 Commander unit on your camera to remote control the external flash. If the pre-flash is a problem, then the best way to go is with a simple, manually set, slaved remote flash, probably an RF slave system for best results.
